Car Hire :

Taxi :
 Fares to the city centre are metered. Expect to pay about €17.
Bus :
 Bus 78 takes you direct to the city centre, as well as the central train and coach stations. Tickets: €0.50 (€0.60 on the bus).

Shop
Tsimiskis Avenue is nearly three kilometres long, so there should be something for everyone. Allow yourself a few hours to wander and explore.
Insider Tip
Visit Warehouse A, where the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography and Museum of Cinematography are housed under the same roof. Both are open daily from 11am-9pm.
Key Area
Nea Krini, in the seafront location of Kalamaria, is one of the liveliest areas. A meeting point for the young and trendy at night, there are plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from.

The world-renowned International Book Fair takes place in the Helexpo grounds in the city centre. Catch a host of Greek and international authors (29 May-1 June. www.thessalonikibookfair.com).
Day Tripping
Mount Athos
 – Located on one of the peninsulas of Chalkidiki, Mount Athos is dotted with monasteries. Only men are allowed to enter them, but women can admire the stunning architecture. Daily departures from the central bus station.
