Shop
Ekovaruhuset is an organic and fair-trade fashion shop run by self-proclaimed ‘eco nerd’ Johanna Hofring. In her cave-like medieval vaults you can shop for fashion-forward garments without hurting the environment (28 Österlånggatan, Gamla Stan. Tel. 08 229 845).
Insider Tip
Visit Arkitekturmuseet, free on Friday from 4pm-6pm. Learn lots about buildings around the world while seeing inside a stunning example of modern Scandinavian architecture (Skeppsholmen. Tel. 08 5872 7000).
Key Area
Walk across the wooden Skeppsholmsbron to get to one of Stockholm’s smallest islands. Visit the Moderna Museet (Museum of Modern Art) and Arkitekturmuseet (Museum of Architecture), or just enjoy a nice walk around the island and the city views.
This month
Experience the street dance version of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest in acclaimed Swedish dance company Bounce’s genre-defying show Insane in the Brain at Dansens Hus (4-26 January. www.dansenshus.se).
Day Tripping
Yasuragi Hasseludden
 – About 30 minutes' drive from town you'll find this haven of tranquillity where you'll discover that Swedish and Japanese aesthetics are really quite closely related. The Japanese baths are heavenly at this spa, especially during the winter months (www.yasuragi.se).
No way!
Stockholm has more single people than any other capital of the world. More than 60% of city dwellers are single—and in the neighbourhood of Kungsholmen the figure rises to 80%!
