(8 Plaça Reial. Tel. 97 136 1822) It’s central—and touristy as a result—but if you go inside for coffee, croissants and filled rolls, you’ll pay less than on the terrace and you can also access the free Wi-Fi connection.
(143-147 Moll de Llevant. Tel. 97 136 7956) A Wild West eatery with several beers to choose from to wash down your choice of spicy Tex-Mex dishes. Attracts a young crowd and gets very busy at weekends.
(43 Cales Fonts, Es Castell. Tel. 97 136 7097) Perfect for fine fish, whether it's baked, grilled or in paella. If there’s no space on the terrace outside, the dining room carved out of the cliff face inside shouldn’t disappoint.
(7 Sant Pancraç, Alaior. Tel. 97 137 2971) In this neatly converted townhouse, you’ll be served works of art to eat and if you manage to get a seat on the multi-layered terrace, you can peer across at nearby rooftops and balconies. The bar swings (rather than stools) are not to be missed.
(Cala en Porter. Tel. 97 137 7236) Visit this nightclub by day—at sunset ideally—and you can not only explore this series of natural caves but you’re also in one of the best spots for a drink with uninterrupted sea views.
(4 Sant Jaume, Sant Climent. Tel. 97 115 4418) This month, the Casino’s summer jazz season kicks off again, with jam sessions every Tuesday night. Listen while nibbling on a plate of tapas, or take the stage and join in.
(Son Bou. Tel. ) Transport yourself to Cuba in this themed bar where a Cadillac is spectacularly suspended mid-air above the bar staff. The music, pop and dance, suits the young crowd.
On the ground
Shop
The quirky candles in the window at the Cereria Abella are enough to get you through the door, but inside this crowded shop there are other original, crafty gift ideas on sale (6 Isabel II. Tel. 97 135 2540).

Day Tripping
Son Bou
–
With a couple of kilometres of sugary sand to wander along, Menorca’s longest beach at Son Bou is well worth a stroll. When the sun gets too fiery, retreat to the shade of the pine trees near the car park, where there are several picnic benches.
No way!
In 1722, the British decided to move Menorca's captial from Ciutadella to Mahon.
