Shop
Silver, crystal, blown glass, porcelain and ceramics are featured at Kriss di Falvo Antonella. Falvo offers to personalise your purchases, as well as ship them home (103 Via della Nazioni, Sant'Eufemia. Tel. 329 723 1079. www.krissdifalvo.com).
Insider Tip
It takes about 40 minutes by train (Tickets: €3. www.trenitalia.it) to Catanzaro, Calabria's capital. There's plenty to do in Catanzaro Lido, but for the old city on a hill, take the funicolare.
Key Area
The old Sambiase area was named after a 10th-century monastery honouring St Blaise, and its religious heritage is still strong, with five out of 15 churches remaining. The newly refurbished Politeama hosts art exhibitions and cultural events.
This month
At Palazzo Fazzari, in Catanzaro, you can trace the city's history and tradition in textiles, especially silk, at Tessere l'Arte. Entry is free (24-27 November).
Day Tripping
Tropea
 – One of the most popular destinations in southern Italy for its beautiful, clean beaches and quaint medieval town centre full of shops and restaurants. It's about 65 kilometres from Lamezia Terme.
No way!
The Diocese of Lamezia Terme (formerly Nicastro) produced two popes: Marcellus II (served 22 days) and Innocent IX (two months).
