Key Area
Around the magnificent fortress you'll find the oldest part of the city—the former Moorish quarter. The Calle de las Tiendas (Street of Shops) is like a Turkish bazaar and the castle itself is a magnificent example of Arabic architecture.

Day Tripping
Sierra Nevada Natural Park
 – This beautiful park extends into the north of Almería province. It is home to the Sierra Nevada mountain range and mainland Spain’s highest peak, Mulhacen. It also contains dozens of whitewashed mountain villages as well as the spectacular scenery. The park is home to wild boar, wolves, eagles and vultures. A host of marked trails offer excellent walking.
No way!
Almería’s mayor has accused celebrated British architect Norman Foster of ‘dragging his feet’ over the project for a new conference centre after two years of negotiations still haven't yielded an agreement over the building’s design.
