Bus :
Line 8 takes about 20 minutes to get to the city. It runs seven days a week from 5.55am-11.15 pm. Tickets: €4.50.

Chez Alain
(Residence Harmonie, Agosta Plage . Tel. 04 9525 9754) On the Gulf of Ajaccio, come to Chez Alain to take in a spectacular sunset on the terrace and enjoy the region's best moules frites (mussels and chips).
Auberge U Licettu
(Plaine de Cuttoli, Cuttoli-Corticchiato. Tel. 04 9525 6157) Curious about Corsican gastronomy? This Michelin-awarded Bib Gourmand restaurant will satisfy questions and appetites. Whether you are in the mood for something hearty, gourmet or a little taste of everything, U Licettu has a menu that pleases every palate.
L'Estaminet
(7 Rue Roi de Rome. Tel. 04 9501 1042) Traditional French cuisine at its best, with an Alsacien twist. Try the squid cooked in a hearty black-ink sauce, the sauerkraut or andouillettes, a type of sausage. Both the service and wine list are impeccable. Closed on Tuesday.
Night Fever
Le Grand Café Napoléon
(10 Cours Napoléon. Tel. 04 9521 4254) Supposedly Ajaccio's oldest café. The bar was the scene of a shoot-out between Resistance members and Italian caribinieri during WWII.
Le Menestrel
(5 Rue Fesch. Tel. 04 9550 5184) After 7pm, local musicians come out to play in this popular bar. Style and talent vary, but a good time is guaranteed.
Shamrock Pub
(1 Rue Forcioli Conti. Tel. ) A friendly mix of Irish and Corsican atmosphere, as well as a wide range of international beers. Open until 2am, with karaoke on Wednesday.

Need to find a uniquely Corsican gift? Head to Casa Napoleon for authentic treats. Especially tasty is the clementine l'eau de vie and myrtle-infused foie gras (3 Rue Fesch. Tel. 04 9521 4788).
Insider Tip

Key Area
North of Place Foch is César-Campinchi, the venue for Corsica's largest fresh produce market. Every day from 6am-2pm, except Monday. After shopping, head to the cafés lining the west side of the square for a lively breakfast.
This month
The 21st annual Défi des Ports de Pêche (Challenge of the Fishing Ports) is held in Ajaccio from 26 May-2 June. Events all feature a sea theme, including a mono-hull sailboat race, and it winds up with a traditional celebration of fishermen ( www.defidesportsdepeche.com, French only).
